A visualization of the lodge at aamby valleyThe three spa buildings

Aamby Valley is strategically located between Mumbai and Pune, two of southern India’s major cities. At an altitude of 766 metres, the valley is cooled by year-round breezes. It has some of the best weather in the country, with the temperature rarely rising above 32C, meaning the climate is comfortable all year round. ECAP were commissioned to design apartment buildings with integrated spa facilities for Aamby Valley.

Mumbai is the world’s most populous city, with 13.3 million inhabitants. India’s luxury market is expected to reach USD 30 billion by 2015. It is also the fifth largest retail destination in the world, served by local and international airports within close proximity to the site. India is the second fastest growing major economy in the world, and is on course to overtake Japan in a decade. The development is two hours’ drive southeast of Mumbai. It is used as a get-away for weekend retreats by Mumbai residents. It is located in the Western Ghats, an idyllic mountain retreat with lakes and verdant rolling hills .

At an altitude of 766 metres and cooled by year-round breezes, Aamby Valley has some of the best weather in the country. Watched over by the region’s characteristic tabletop hills, the resort covers about 11,000 acres. Aamby Valley has a string of lakes with over 21Km of shoreline, the best golf course in India, a compact, fully fitted hospital, private airfield, comprehensive security: all the amenities you might expect with luxury housing.

Sahara India Pariwar, the master developer, is committed to protecting the natural environment, so only 9% of the site will ever be built up.

The Retreat is located on a hillside overlooking the valley. We conceived it as three subtle two-storey buildings of 33 apartments each, carefully sited so as not to intrude on the spectacular views or on each other.

• Road access to the buildings
• Communal gardens
• Picnic areas, with built-in barbecue
• Children’s adventure trail with swings, tree-house, woodland paths and mountain trails
• Lookout points and peaceful glades for relaxation and private contemplation
• Concealed car parking
• Paths and trails down to the lake shore and other parts of Aamby Valley
