ECA (and Gerald Brady from the Matrix partnership) headed up to ACUB for 2 events to mark the opening of their summer show. The first was a private view of the degree work. There was some excellent work on show. It was good to see architecture courses immersed within a creative grouping rather than part of more scientific/ practical groups such as the “Department of the built environment” [very Orwellian] at Westminster Uni. It was more like Knights Park campus at Kingston Uni or The Royal Academy. Architecture is at the moment only a fledgling course here, but post grad is coming soon we gather. We would like to see more of the creative environment leading the architecture discourses, but no doubt that will soon follow. The film, 3D design, fashion, photography and animated film courses shone out the most to us. We also got distracted by a rather nice 3D printer that was able to create lovely maquettes and prototypes. Apologies for the slightly blurry photos of the event below.
ECA returned a week later to go to the High Serif’s Reception at Bournemouth University. This was a slightly surreal event with many Dorset dignitaries donning a large array of medallions and silverware – no idea what it all meant and what they all did, but they looked quite important none the less. The sherif himself was also pleasant enough even if it is a bit distracting talking to a man with a sword and a white fur cape.
