The Twin Sails Bridge will be opening on 9th March 2012. ECA-P plan to take part in the opening event, either on a boat or on a bike. We are really interested to see whether this truly unique bridge (some say ‘Brunel-esky’ in its design solution) will give more priority to minority transport users, i.e. bikes, pedestrians and boats. Clearly this has been a challenge while also meeting the needs of commercial vehicles and trucks on their way to Poole Port.

ECA-P are continuing to work with Vision Group for Poole on the removal of the gyratory road system which connects to the bridge, which only opened in November. Unfortunately the new road system provides a ‘race-track mentality’ to drivers, who can now drive even faster around Poole town centre, leaving pedestrians stranded on small traffic islands and undefined areas of public realm of which there are now even more.
