Boscombe Shopfronts

As part of the Better Boscombe initiative, ECA Architecture was commissioned by BCP Council to redesign and restore a series of shopfronts along the high street. The project involved significant structural interventions to listed buildings, carefully balancing contemporary needs with strict heritage requirements.

We worked with a palette of high-quality, durable materials including steel, hardwood timber, and brick, complemented by thoughtfully engineered drainage systems that were both functional and visually discreet.

Each shop front was given a distinct identity through bespoke signage and hand-painted lettering, celebrating craftsmanship while reinforcing the character of the street.

Community engagement was central to the project. By listening to local voices and respecting the town’s sense of pride and identity, we ensured the designs honoured Boscombe’s architectural legacy. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding built fabric, the regenerated shopfronts now integrate seamlessly into the high street—enhancing its visual richness while safeguarding its heritage.
