Located within a Residential Area of Special Character, this project involves the sensitive extension of an existing property and the addition of a new, contemporary dwelling. The design carefully balances modern architecture with the site’s established woodland nature.
The new dwelling acts as a contemporary reflection of the original house. Both feature matching brickwork for visual continuity, juxtaposed with striking Shou-Sugi-Ban charred timber cladding defining the ground-floor spaces and balconies. Steeply pitched roofs without barge-boards and large, vertically proportioned windows further transition the design into a highly modern aesthetic.
Internally, double-height entrance halls and open-plan living areas create spacious, light-filled environments. The layout and fenestration were meticulously planned to navigate site constraints, ensuring the protection of mature trees while effectively mitigating acoustic impacts from the nearby road.
