The My Time Outdoor Centre, located near Worth Matravers within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), provides essential rest and recuperation retreats for young carers. The site, formerly an RAF Radio Station, currently features a flat-roofed building that is uninsulated and in a state of disrepair.
Our proposal seeks to comprehensively refurbish the existing building to create a warm, welcoming, and sustainable environment. Key improvements include installing high-performance external insulation, replacing the discoloured render with natural timber cladding, and adding new patio doors to increase natural light. To minimise environmental impact, we are incorporating renewable energy sources, including Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) and low-pitch solar panels carefully designed to blend into the roofscape.
The design approach transforms the tired structure into a contemporary, pavilion-style building that softens its visual impact and actively enhances its sensitive rural setting. Additional upgrades include a new raised timber deck for outdoor seating and improved facilities to support seasonal camping for Duke of Edinburgh award participants.
