Sandbanks Neighbourhood Plan

The Sandbanks Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan (2023-2033) is a policy-based land-use plan produced by the Sandbanks Neighbourhood Forum. Its primary objective is to guide future development, regeneration, and conservation, allowing the local community to influence design policies and infrastructure. Sandbanks is a unique 1km long sand spit peninsula in Dorset, bordered by Poole Harbour and Poole Bay, making it a highly desirable residential area and tourist destination.  

The plan's vision is to preserve Sandbanks' character, sylvan landscape, and sense of place, ensuring it remains an attractive place to live and visit while balancing the needs of both residents and tourists. To achieve this, the plan establishes policies across three main themes:  

• Landscape, Design and Conservation: Focuses on protecting valued views, mature tree canopies, and remnant sand dunes, while enforcing high-quality architectural design.  
• Beaches, Streets and Movement: Aims to enhance public beaches and open spaces, prioritise pedestrians and cyclists, and strictly manage traffic flow.  
• Amenities and Hotels: Seeks to protect local services, community facilities, and the area's two highly valued hotels to ensure the community remains sustainable.  

Additionally, the plan identifies six distinct character areas to provide tailored guidance for future development.
