This development project proposes minor alterations to the existing Urban Reef restaurant located at The Overstrand on Boscombe Promenade. The core of the proposal involves changing the use of the adjacent seafront office to create an additional kitchen and takeaway space named "The Wood Oven".
The Wood Oven will provide essential food preparation space to support Urban Reef, allowing for an extended evening service and a broader range of wood-fired breads. It will also feature a fast counter service centered around a large wood-fired oven serving pizzas, baked pastas, and roasted meats. The design embraces its coastal setting by utilizing natural materials, including wood log piles and bifold-glazed shutters along the front counter.
To enhance the customer experience year-round, the project includes installing a lightweight, retractable canopy on Urban Reef's first-floor terrace for weather-proofing. Furthermore, a new timber decked area will be added directly on the beach, allowing guests to enjoy their food right by the sea. These upgrades aim to boost the local tourism economy while complementing the unique 1950s architectural character of The Overstrand.
