Located in Dorset, Weymouth is a historic seaside town facing challenges with limited development land and social mobility. The Weymouth Design Code forms a crucial part of the Neighbourhood Plan, establishing a comprehensive vision to regenerate the central area by 2038. Our strategy employs a three-tiered approach: general design guidance based on the National Design Guide, specific character area codes celebrating Weymouth’s unique identity, and detailed site coding for key brownfield locations.
The code prioritizes the "20-minute neighbourhood" model, promoting highly permeable, walkable communities. By balancing high-density, low-cost outcomes with sustainable environmental principles, the design code ensures developments are financially viable while providing high-quality, genuinely affordable housing. Ultimately, the project aims to create a resilient, inclusive coastal community that enhances the public realm, addresses climate change, and fosters happy lifestyles.
